Reading Group

At each meeting we choose (democratically!) a book to read before the next time we meet.  We have an informal discussion about the latest book (the discussion becomes much more informal as the evening progresses – due to the consumption of wine and nibbles!). These discussions are lively and thought-provoking.

The Reading Group meet every six weeks, if you are interested in joining please ring Pauline on 928 5625.  Our next meeting is on Tuesday 14th September at 7.30pm when we will be discussing the following book.

The First Apostle by James Becker

An English woman is found dead in a house near Rome, her neck broken.  Her distraught husband enlists the help of his closest friend, policeman Chris Bronson, who discovers an ancient inscription on a slab of stone above their fireplace.  It translates as 'Here Lie the Liars'.  Pursued across Europe, Bronson and his ex-wife uncover a trail of clues that lead them back to the shadowy beginnings of Christianity; to an ancient code inscribed upon a stone; to a chalice decorated with mysterious symbols and to a deadly conspiracy which will rock the foundations of our modern world if revealed.

The books we have read so far are:

The Island, Gentlemen and Players, The Divide, Restless, The Testament of Gideon Mack, The Kite Runner, The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox, The Shadow of the Wind, The Visible World, The Ghost, Resistance, No Time for Goodbye,  A Small Part of History, The Outcast, A Carrion Death, Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, A Secret Alchemy, The Piano Teacher, Too Close to Home,  Past Imperfect, Summer School, The Book Thief, Before the Storm, The Message, Under This Unbroken Sky, For One More Day and The Winter Vaults.
